WHO ARE YOU? We are Taiwanese students, srtists, educators, and journalists who study and work in Australia. We are protesting against the undemocratic Cross-Strait Services Trade Agreement (CSSTA) between Taiwan and China in progress now. Taiwan's democracy is in crisis and we believe that true democracy should follow procedural justice, not politician's secret deals. WHAT IS CSSTA? (CROSS-STRAIT SERVICE TRADE AGREEMENT) •CSSTA aims at liberalising service market between China and Taiwan. Howereer it's an unfair trade act that does not baed on a mutual-beneficial principle. •In this illegally passed agreement, categories of industries in Taiwan will be opened to China includung telecom, medical, transportation and communication that can affect Taiwan's national security drastically. •In this agreement, China can censor Taiwan's media content throuh controlling over the publishing industry's distribution and commercial sides. WHY WE TAIWANESE ARE AGAINST IT? •March 17th, the parliament of Taiwan forced to pass the biggest trade agreement between Taiwan and China in histry, ignoring the legal review process and brought Taiwan's democracy to the darkest moment. •Chinese people are allowed to own publications, and censor media contents in Taiwan, which greatly undermines the freedom of art and speech in the cultural and creative industries•Over 50% Taiwanese do not welcome the CSSTA Over 70% Taiwanese favour line-itemed review to it. Over 80% Taiwanese are ANGRY about the government's illegal deed to harm democracy WHAT WE DEMAND FROM THE TAIWANESE GOVERNMENT: •Overturn and renegotiated the Trade agreement with China •Estabish democratic legal cross straight negotiation mechanism •Reject unequal treaties. Proec freedom of speech and freedom of press. HOW TO HELP? •SPREAD THE WORD OUT TO OVERTURN THIS AGREEMENT.
